Clomid, the brand name of Clomiphene citrate, is a medication used to induce ovulation. It is usually recommended for women who want to get pregnant but are not ovulating normally or not ovulating at all. Now, ovulation occurs when a mature egg is released from your ovary ready for fertilization. Before this can happen, canada goose parka womensfollicles that contain eggs in your ovaries must mature and grow larger. Estrogen increases as your follicles mature. At the start of your cycle, your estrogen levels will be low. This will tell your body to release a hormone called Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH will tell your body to produce two other hormones, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH will trigger the growth and maturation of your follicles. As they mature, your estrogen levels increase which then causes the release of LH. LH is important because it will tell your body to release the mature egg from the follicle.

So, how does Clomid work? Clomid tricks your body into believing that your estrogen levels are low. This results in an increase in the production of GnRH which causes your body to produce and release FSH and LH. Once this happens, ovulation usually occurs. With Clomid, ovulation occurs 80% of the time.

The most common prescription of Clomid is 50mg to be taken for 5 days straight. Generally, it is taken either through days 3 to 7 of your cycle or days 5 to 9. Most women who take Clomid ovulate around 5 to 9 days after their last dose of Clomid. The best time to start having sex, whether you’re on Clomid or not, is 1 to 2 days prior to ovulation since sperms can live between 3-5 days inside the uterus.

    Hi,

The above information you have given on Clomid is very useful.

I started IUI treatments 2 months ago. The first one produced 5 follicles from Clomid and good endometrium response etc, but I did not get pregnant, then this second cycle of Clomid strangely only produced 1 large follicle – presumably because of my age, age 42?

I am wondering whether to try the FSH injections next time. I am healthy in every other way, but am not sure whether I need to go straight to IVF/ICSI treatments or try Clomid or FSH one more time?

    What’s your advice on this?

    Thanks and regards,
