The Fertility Diet

The Fertility DietIf you?re planning to have a baby, one of the most important lifestyle changes you need to consider is following a fertility diet.? Nutritionists firmly believe that whatever you eat will definitely affect your entire body system including your hormones. These hormones include those responsible for fertility. Also, following a fertility diet will help your body get in proper shape so you can have a healthy pregnancy.

So, what is a fertility diet? Well, if you?re trying to conceive, your chances of getting pregnant increase when you eat foods that help increase fertility. Going on a fertility diet also means avoiding certain foods that will not improve your chances at all.

Organic fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy products

The most recommended fertility diet is eating organic fruits, vegetables, and dairy products because they all contain more nutritional value compared to non-organic ones.? As much as possible, avoid eating conventionally produced fruits and veggies because they may contain harmful pesticides and herbicides which, in turn, can have a negative effect on your fertility. Leafy green vegetables and fruits are a rich source of fiber which helps in reducing fertility issues like immunological issues and in maintaining balanced hormones. Also, try to have as much brightly colored produce as you can in your diet such as kale and blueberries. This is because the brighter the color of a vegetable or fruit, the more nutrients it contains.

For dairy foods, it is best to take those that are organic, raw, whole fat, and grass-fed.? Avoid eating non-organic dairy products because they contain added antibiotics and hormones which may contribute to an increase of estrogen in your body.? If you are not fond of taking dairy foods, you can have hemp milk or fresh almonds instead.? You should also only eat organic red meat and chicken as they don?t contain any harmful substances that can negatively affect your hormones. Don?t take them off your diet altogether though as these are great sources of protein and iron which are essential in preparing your body for pregnancy.

Eat More Cold Water Fish

Cold water fishes such as cod, salmon, and halibut are the best choices to include in your fertility diet.? Fish is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, and proteins.? Fatty acids help in regulating the menstrual cycle and in producing hormones so fish is an ideal food choice if you are trying to conceive. As much as possible, avoid eating deep water fishes like swordfish, Chilean sea bass, and tuna because it may contain concentrations of mercury.? It is also best to take wild salmon instead of farmed salmon because it may contain toxic food dyes and antibiotics.

Avoid Soy Products

Research has shown that processed soy foods contain properties that mimic estrogen.? Thus, if you don?t want to have a hormonal imbalance, avoid eating soy cheeses, soy meats, soy chips, and any other soy products.

Drink alcohol in moderation or not at all

While there is no conclusive proof that alcohol consumption really does affect fertility, one study by Danish researchers did show that the more alcohol a woman consumes, the less likely she is to get pregnant compared to those who drank sparingly. Drinking an occasional glass of beer or wine may not affect your chances of conceiving.? But if you?re trying to become pregnant, you may end up drinking the occasional glass after you have conceived which can harm the fetus? development. To be on the safe side, doctors advise to only drink on the first day of your menstrual period.

Increase your water intake

Drink plenty of filtered or purified water daily to increase fertility.? Avoid drinking bottled water because the plastic bottle may cause a hormonal imbalance because of the estrogen mimicking chemicals found in the plastic. Tap water should also be avoided because some studies reveal that it may contain harmful pesticides due to agricultural runoff. If you want some juice in your diet, make sure to only drink natural fruit juices as these do not contain concentrated sugar.

Following a fertility diet will increase your chances of conceiving as well as improve your overall health.? While it may seem hard especially at first, the sacrifice is well worth it once you find out you?re having a baby.
