Consuming soy foods may lengthen menstrual cycles and decrease fertile periods.? Research shows that eating 60mg of soy a day may add 2.5 days to your menstrual cycle. It also lowers your FSH or follicle-stimulating hormone levels and LH or luteinizing hormone levels which are the hormones needed for ovulation.

 

Caffeine

Fertility experts advise that it is best to slow down caffeine consumption if you are trying to get pregnant.? Caffeine causes the blood vessels to constrict, thus slowing the blood flow to your uterus.? This may make it harder for the egg cell to grab hold in your uterus.?? Experts suggest taking lesser than 8 ounces of coffee in a mug or 300 mgs of coffee a day for those who are used to drinking caffeine every day because they are prone to suffer from headaches when they stop their caffeine intake altogether. ?Steamed milk with a bit of flavored syrup can be a nice coffee alternative, especially since the calcium will do you good.

 

Undercooked or raw foods

Avoid eating undercooked or raw foods because they may be contaminated with listeria, salmonella, and other kinds of food-borne bacteria.? These can be harmful to your developing fetus.? In addition, research reveals that pregnant women are more vulnerable than other healthy adults to developing listeriosis, an infection caused by listeria. Listeriosis can cause an early miscarriage thus you need to be very careful about what you eat particularly if you know that you might be conceiving anytime soon.

 

Deep Sea Fishes

Fishes like king mackerel, marlin, grouper, tilefish, shark, and swordfish are known for having high mercury content.? Mercury may damage the developing fetus? nervous system and it can also be harmful to your body.? This, however, does not mean that you will need to avoid all sorts of fish altogether. Two servings per week of?low-mercury fish such as?canned light tuna, shrimp, and salmon can be consumed without any risk to you or your baby.

 

Over-the-Counter Medications and other Prescription Drugs

When you are trying to get pregnant, you should first consult your obstetrician before taking any OTC Drugs and other prescription drugs. There are some drugs that are not safe for pregnancy.? OTC drugs like Ibuprofen may cause some problems during pregnancy and it may also interfere with the implantation.

 

Stress and Strenuous Activities

Prolonged or high levels of stress can affect the hormones in your body.? In fact, stress can also lead to a premature birth.? Strenuous activities like extreme sports, outings, and late night parties should be avoided if you are trying to get pregnant.? Try to undergo some lifestyle changes so you can prepare your body, and even your mind, for pregnancy and motherhood.
